Online brand ASOS Design sell women's shoes up to size 10 UK at great prices. But are they true to size & are the shoes any good? I ordered a mix of size 9 UK shoes to find out.
Generally, Yes. ASOS Design shoes uses standard UK shoe sizes.
I ordered a mix of size 9 UK shoes in February 2021 to test if they were true to size. All 3 pairs were large enough for my size 9 UK feet. The wide fit size 9 shoes were actually slightly too big for my normal-wide width feet.
ASOS Design shoes are only marked with UK sizes on them. The foot length measurements in their size guide are 27cm for size 9 UK and 27.9cm for size 10 UK, which are fairly standard. The US size conversions are consistent with proper size 9 and 10 uk women's shoes too.
On their main UK site, ASOS convert their size 9 UK shoes to only size 42 European. This often suggests small sizing, but not here. In fact on the French ASOS shoe size guide, ASOS convert their 9 UK shoe size to 43 and their 10 UK to 44.5. So don't let the misleading 42 EU conversion put you off.
Shoe sizing can vary for certain styles though. ASOS have a fit assistant tool available for many shoes. You tell it your size in another brand and it advises which size you should buy. It's really handy. Shoes with reviews also have a customer size rating slider so you can judge whether you may need to size up or down.
I ordered a variety of shoe styles to test sizing across the ASOS Design range. Everything arrived very well packaged, with tissue and rods in the shoes.
All 3 pairs ofshoes looked just as good in real life as the website pictures too.
These Lolly ballet flats were my fave. The size 9 measures 28.5cm long approx and is definitely long enough for my size 9 uk feet in tights.
The pink colour is more vibrant than it looks on the website. The fabric has a lovely sheen and a subtle stripe weave to it, similar to grosgrain ribbon. They look much more expensive than the €23 (£18) price.
Unfortunately, the shoe toe box is very flat. So vertical room was the issue for me. I could feel the top of the shoe pressing against my big toe. That's the only reason I returned these shoes. It's a real shame as I adored the look and colour. They really are pretty big shoes. 😍
ASOS also do these Lolly mary janes in other colours - currently black (standard and wide fit) and green velvet (wide fit) up to size 9 uk.
The taupe Sammy Slingbacks in size 9 UK are also true to size. They have a 3¼ inch heel and the heel strap is adjustable with 5 settings. I found the default middle hole position just right in tights. They have very pointy toes but ample room.
One of the shoes did have a very slight mark near the toe. It wasn't a wear mark or anything and you would need an eagle eye to spot it in the faux suede.
The taupe shade I bought was reduced from €35 to €23 (£17) and is now out of stock. However ASOS do this Sammy Slingback style up to size 9 uk in a range of colours. Some are wide fit too. Black, ivory and sparkly glitter are in stock in size 9 UK as of 9 April 2021.
The size 9 uk wide fit strirrup loafers were actually slightly too big on me with fine socks on. I usually wear standard width shoes, but my feet would be on the wide side of average. The loafers did not feel particularly wide across to me, but wide fit can result in a longer fit too. My heels were coming up out of the shoes when I walked in fine socks. They did feel quite comfortable otherwise though.
The patent finish is really shiny and wasn't really my taste. However, the loafers look very smart overall with the gold tone hardware and block 6cm heel.
This style was the most expensive full price at €42, but was reduced to €20 (£13.50) and are still available in size 9 UK at that bargain price as of 9 April 2021. If you miss out, ASOS have a very similar Skylar loafer reduced at the moment (up to size 9 UK).
ASOS give women worldwide access to fashionable size 9 & 10 UK shoes at a really affordable price point.
You can't expect too much quality wise from fast fashion though. With sale reductions and a discount code, I was able to buy these 3 pairs of shoes for only around 50 euro. That's crazy!
I was pleased with the overall online shopping experience. The shoes were delivered ahead of schedule, well packaged and looked just like the website.
From trying on the shoes, they were proper size 9s. The standard fit pairs were true to size and the wide fit pair were more generous.
Having reviewed them closely, they were all reasonably well finished despite the low cost. You don't get fancy insoles or any comfort technologies of course. ASOS shoes are all about getting the look for less. So if you have problem feet or find it difficult finding comfortable shoes, I would recommend considering other brands who focus on fit instead.
Because I decided to return these shoes, I cannot comment on how comfortable they were for daily wear or the longevity. If I wear ASOS shoes in the future, I'll be sure to update this post. In the meantime, I'd love to hear your own ASOS shoe experiences - good or bad - please contact me.
Yes. ASOS offer free returns for most countries. I even got a postage label included with my order, so you don't need a printer. It is also easy to print out a label for an alternative return method or extra return labels if needed.
The only slight issue was my order came in an oversized cardboard box (27 x 33 x 52 cm) which was a bit awkward to carry. So bear that in mind before you order too many pairs at once! Although you could use your own smaller box instead of the original packaging if you have some to hand.
Also, it may be a few weeks before you receive your refund. I'm in Ireland and my refund took 23 days after returning items.
Overall, I had a good experience shopping at ASOS. I'm pleased to report that their own ASOS Design brand size 9 shoes are true to size. My order arrived ahead of schedule with the shoes well packaged and as expected. The prices are hard to beat and returns are free and easy too.
