Evans UK future in doubt: find alternative shops for wide large size shoes

Updated by Janine

UK plus-size clothing chain Evans is in financial trouble & went into administration on Monday.

Dorothy Perkins, which sells size 9 UK shoes and has a tall clothing range, is also affected along with all other Arcadia brands.

Evans' closure would be a major loss for women with larger shoe sizes, especially if you have wider feet. Here's what you need to know along with some alternative shoe shops for Evans fans.

Is Evans clothing closing down?

Evans stores and the Evans.co.uk website continue to trade during the administration process. It is hoped that a buyer can be found to save the brand.

Evans' future is uncertain at this stage. Even if a new owner is found, it could become an online only business or change in other ways.

Can I still use my Evans gift voucher?

According to the Evans UK support website, gift cards cannot be used online. They can still be used in store, but only for up to 50% of the total cost.

If you have an Evans voucher, I'd suggest using it ASAP. Even if a new owner is found, there is no guarantee they will accept old gift cards. Take it from someone who was left with a useless House of Fraser voucher. 😒

New Evans gift cards cannot currently be bought online.

I buy all my shoes in Evans. Help!

If you rely on Evans shoes, consider stocking up now in case they go out of business.

On the plus side, they will have good offers in the run up to Christmas. But others may be stockpiling too, so stocks could run low fast.

Evans is the only high street chain where you can just walk in & easily try & buy wide size 10/11 UK shoes. So it's natural to feel gutted if Evans is your go-to for shoes.

Hopefully Evans will be saved, but I'd suggest starting to look into alternative shoe stores now. That way you can have a few shops in reserve & won't panic if you have a shoe-mergency!

The good news is that there are plenty of wide fit shoes in big sizes available online. Check out my top recommendations below.

Some of Britain's most famous chains even have wide fit styles available in size 9 UK. While you can buy these online, they may not be readily available in store though:

Finally, you will find more shoe shopping options in the UK wide fitting and worldwide shipping wide fitting categories in the PBS shops directory.

Fingers (& toes!) crossed Evans will be around long term, but I hope this list helps you find some new fave shoe stores too. ❤️
