Shoe Shop Stories: Low Heels UK
Low Heels UK specialises in large sizes with a focus on fashionable flat, low and mid heel footwear. I spoke with founder Joanna Scott to find out all about the brand.
When did you set up Low Heels and why?
It was a lovely sunny day and I was online looking for a pair of going out sandals. I wasted so much time and found nothing. That's when I decided I wanted to design and sell beautiful shoes in extended sizes. So I set to work & launched the Low Heels online store in early 2019.
Being 6ft tall with size 9 UK feet, I have always struggled to find the right pair of shoes – especially for evenings out. I know first-hand how difficult it is to find something in right size which is chic, well-made, doesn’t ruin your outfit and has a low heel.
What shoe sizes do you stock and where do you ship to?
We specialise in shoe sizes 42-45 EU (8-11 UK, 10-13 US) and we ship worldwide. While the UK is our biggest market, women in the USA love our shoes & we receive orders from European countries too.
By making my own shoe designs in smaller batches, we are also able to do our bit for the environment, reducing waste & avoiding overproduction. I believe that when you set up new business these days, you must think about the environmental impact & make the right decisions.
Tell us about the range of styles available
Where do I start? I have my own exclusive Low Heels Signature shoe range, and also stock selected shoes from Brunate, Hogl and Toni Pons.
My Low Heels Signature shoes are handmade in Poland by a dedicated team of professionals, using only the best quality materials from France, Italy and Spain.
What do you enjoy most about running a store specialising in larger shoe sizes?
Helping other women make their shoe dreams come true is top of the list. Tall ladies with larger feet are so used to boring footwear styles in dark colours that many of us don’t even dare to think about something different. Low Heels offer shoes in bright colours and original materials and that’s something new & unique for women with bigger feet.
Designing and making new styles is super exciting, too. We make shoes that are fashionable & often not available in extended sizes elsewhere. I am obviously spoiled for choice now, but I still remember what it was like to look at beautiful shoes, wishing they were available in a bigger size.
Receiving a message from a happy customer always makes my day. It's the best feeling in the world for a small business owner.
